Twelve gentle ways to end the year

12 gentle ways to end the year

It's almost time to close the laptop Reader,

This is the last email I'll send you this side of Christmas as, no doubt, you've got a lot going on...

As we reach the end of the year, you might be noticing a familiar mix of feelings. A bit of tiredness. A bit of reflection. A bit of that quiet pressure to make sense of the last twelve months while still keeping everything moving.

If you run your own business, this time of year can feel especially heavy.

We pick up so much without noticing

  • Expectations
  • Disappointments
  • Half-finished ideas
  • The small frustrations we meant to sort out
  • The 'almosts'
  • The 'maybes'
  • The things we carried because nobody else could

It is no wonder so many people feel full by December. And yet almost all of that list is borne out of the demands we put on ourselves – demands that might be pulling us away from the original "why we do what we do" magic.

Maybe you need to start a new conversation...?

Before you rush ahead into plans for next year, I want to offer you something gentler. A chance to slow down, put a few things from the above list down, and find some steadier ground again.

On Monday 29th December I’m sharing Twelve Days of Quiet Confidence.

It is a short, gentle email series for anyone who wants to end 2025 feeling more like themselves and begin 2026 with a clearer head and a calmer heart.

Each email brings a small moment of reflection. Nothing heavy. Nothing time consuming. Just a chance to settle, breathe and see yourself with a bit more compassion and perspective.

If that sounds like something you want, you can join here.

  • This is not a productivity thing
  • This is not a planning tool

This is simply a more kind way of meeting yourself at the end of the year and making space for what you truly want 2026 to become.

Enjoy the festivities in whatever way you choose.
Merry Christmas and thank you for your support and trust this past year (as always).

Drum sticks hitting a snare drum with chalk dust flying in the air. Text over the image reads "Practice does not make permanent"

Practice does NOT make permanent We've been misled Reader, I'm working on something that I can't tell you about yet (I know... how conceited of me to think you care!). It is something that fits the following criteria: It's been an ambition of mine since forever When offered the chance, I jumped in two feet first I am 100% capable of delivering on it (above and beyond, in fact) Since saying yes, I've become more and more terrified Any of that feel familiar? A big opportunity comes your way and...

A photo of prickly cacti with a panel of text over the image that reads "Be more inconvenient".

Be more inconvenient Hi there Reader, You may have seen Hannah Spencer, a newly-appointed MP, delivering her first speech to the Houses of Parliament here in the UK. It was an honest, authentic and impressive debut. Her hands were shaking because being in that room clearly meant a lot to her. There was no political point-scoring in her words, no 'contrary for the sake of contrary'. It was refreshing in many ways: The British media decided it was newsworthy Except they chose to ignore Hannah's...

Jar full of assorted paintbrushes. Overlaid is text hatreds "Do you care too much?"

Do you care too much? I do like it when people agree with me, Reader, ;-) When I talk about how I help creative professionals "improve the emotional relationship they have with their work (as they have a habit of getting in their own way)", there is always a furious nodding of heads (yay!) When you're passionately connected to what you do, there can be a wonderful zen – an energy flow where ideas and inspiration tumble out of you like rainbow drops from a fairytale waterfall* You're at one...
